Reflective Discussion & Confirmation Policy- Revalidation Ready
1. Purpose
This policy outlines how reflective discussions and confirmation (sign-off) are conducted by Revalidation Ready in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) revalidation requirements.
It ensures services are delivered safely, professionally, and within clearly defined boundaries that protect both the registrant and the confirmer.
2. Scope of Service
Revalidation Ready provides:
- Reflective discussion sessions
- Confirmation (sign-off) services
- Revalidation portfolio support
These services are delivered as an independent professional service and are not linked to any employer.
3. NMC Requirements
In line with NMC revalidation guidance, registrants must:
- Complete five written reflective accounts
- Undertake a reflective discussion with another NMC registrant
- Obtain confirmation that revalidation requirements have been met
4. Role of Revalidation Ready
Revalidation Ready acts as:
- A reflective discussion partner (NMC registrant)
- An independent confirmer, where appropriate
All services are delivered in line with the NMC Code (2018).
5. Conflict of Interest
Confirmation will not be provided where a conflict of interest exists.
This includes (but is not limited to):
- Close personal relationships (e.g. family members / first-degree relatives)
- Situations where objectivity may be compromised
Where a conflict is identified, the registrant will be advised to seek an alternative appropriate confirmer in line with NMC guidance.
6. Evidence Requirements
Before confirmation is provided, the registrant must demonstrate that they have met all NMC revalidation requirements.
Revalidation Ready will:
- Review the revalidation portfolio
- Assess reflective accounts
- Review CPD records
- Request supporting evidence where appropriate (e.g. timesheets, CPD evidence)
Evidence requirements are determined based on professional judgement.
7. Professional Judgement & Right to Refuse
Revalidation Ready reserves the right to:
- Request additional evidence
- Decline confirmation where requirements are not met
- Recommend further support services where needed
If the portfolio is incomplete or insufficient, confirmation will not be provided.
8. Limitations of Role
Revalidation Ready:
- Does not verify employment status
- Does not independently validate all documentation
- Relies on information and evidence provided by the registrant
The registrant remains fully responsible for:
- The accuracy and authenticity of their documentation
- Compliance with NMC standards
- Submitting truthful revalidation applications
9. Professional Disclaimer
Confirmation:
- Does not guarantee NMC revalidation approval
- Does not imply endorsement of clinical competence
- Confirms only that requirements appear to be met based on the evidence provided
Final decisions regarding revalidation remain the responsibility of the NMC.
10. Record Keeping
Revalidation Ready will:
- Keep a record of reflective discussions
- Retain confirmation documentation
- Store all information securely in line with data protection requirements
11. Safeguarding & Professional Concerns
Any safeguarding or professional concerns identified during sessions will be managed in line with the Safeguarding & Professional Concerns Policy.
